OUR GOAL AND PHILOSOPHY

OUR GOAL
The main purpose of this program is to introduce the sport of golf and tennis to children in a fun and active atmosphere where children are both learning how to play the sport and also developing the necessary fundamental movement skills to become not only good golfers or tennis players but also great athletes.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
This program is based on the American system "Titleist Performance Institute"  also known as TPI which emphasizes the importance of the physical development before introducing the specialization of a sport. For this reason, TPI believes that all junior training programs must develop athletes first, create competitive players second and produce a love for the game along the way.

THE FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENT SKILLS WE WORK ON

Fundamental movement skills are a specific set of skills that involve different body parts such as feet, legs, trunk, head, arms and hands. These skills are the “building blocks” for more complex and specialised skills that children will need throughout their lives. It is important to work on developing these skills in order to be able to competently participate in different games, sports and recreational activities. Our activities are focused on improving the children's balance, agility, core strength, hand-eye coordination, foot-eye coordination, speed, change of direction and flexibility. The children develop these fundamental skills through activities that involves kicking, stricking, throwing, jumping, push/pull, catching, jumping, etc. All the activites we do in this training are related to golf/tennis in a direct or indirect way.

THE TRAINING SESSIONS

  • The training is for children between 4 to 12 years old aproximately.
  • The sessions are 50 minutes once a week in groups no more than 9 children per class.
  • During this training, we introduce the sport through fun activities.
  • The main goal is that children learn to control their body. For this reason, children are taking part in activities that do not look relevant to the sport but are supporting their physical development. The big emphasis is on the Fundamental Movement Skills. We spend a lot of time in the ABC's (Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed) and having activities that are focus on agility, throwing, kicking, push-pull, stricking, catching, visualization/awareness, rotation, and core strength.
  • Activities are fun so the children start developing their love for the sport.
  • 50% of the time the children are working on their golf/tennis skills while the other 50% they are working on their fundamental movement skills.
  • Each 50-minute class is split into different stations. The children work for a short period of time (about 10 minutes) on a specific skill and then rotate to the next station.
  • There is a lot of playing while they are working on their physical development.
